1 month Neurology must be taken at any time during the three years during elective time.

1 month Hematology/Oncology must be taken at any time during the three years during elective time.

One scheduled half-day session per week for 3 years in the Internal Medicine Clinic; additional clinic time is obtained in the Ambulatory (MAX) months. Residents may see additional patients as needed (e.g., in subspecialty clinics).

* No more than two months on the same elective in one year, and no more than three months on the same elective during the residency. Exceptions to this rule may be approved by the Program Director. Off-campus electives must be approved in advance by the Program Director (maximum two off-site rotations per three-year residency).

Charitable mission rotations are encouraged by the program through its International Medicine rotation program.

** Elective experience seeing ambulatory patients in the Medicine Clinic with Dr. Dickey (or other ambulatory experience) may be substituted for part of the Sports Medicine month if desired. This individual arrangement must be discussed with and approved by Dr. Dickey.

***Residents interested in pursuing a career in Hospitalist Medicine or an inpatient-based subspecialty may elect to do two hospital-based rotations in lieu of thePGY-3 MAX-III and BSU/Endo months. The curriculum will include one month on the Hospitalist rotation; the resident will have the choice of doing either a second Hospitalist month or an additional ICU month for the second month. An elective with a high ambulatory component will need to be taken in order to meet the required ambulatory experience.
